School of Architecture & Fine Arts Dalian University of Technology and Nagoya University successfully held an academic exchange event from September 8 to 10, 2024. Professor Qu Yi invited Professor Hisashi Komatsu of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Nagoya University, Japan, as the guest speaker to teach a large number of teachers and students about the connotation and development trend of the field of architectural planning. At the beginning of the event, Mr. CAI Jun, Dean of the School of Architecture & Fine Arts, extended a warm welcome to Professor Komatsu and expressed his best wishes for the in-depth exchanges between the two schools in the future. Vice President Ma Hui attended the exchange and study activity and presented a souvenir to Professor Komatsu. The lecture was planned and translated by Dr. Li Fangxing and attended by many teachers and students of the School.
The first lecture was held on September 8 at Building 314, where Professor Hisashi Komatsu gave an in-depth discussion on the impact of demographic changes on the construction industry under the title of "Building Planning in the Age of Aging Young Children and Population Decline". He pointed out that in the context of aging children and a shrinking population, architectural design needs to pay more attention to practicality and sustainability to meet the changing needs of society. In the second lecture on September 9, Professor Hisashi Komatsu shared the results of his research entitled "Renovating public libraries in Japan and Europe for Citizens". By comparing the practice cases of different countries and regions, he discusses how to better reflect humanistic care and social responsibility in architectural design. The last lecture of the series was held on September 10 in the Research Building 206, where Prof. Hisashi Komatsu systematically explained the basic principles and methods of architectural planning with the theme of "The Basic Framework of Architectural Planning". Professor Komatsu's explanation is both theoretical and practical, laying a solid theoretical foundation for the audience.
This series of lectures not only provides a platform for teachers and students of the School of Architecture & Fine Arts Dalian University of Technology and Nagoya University to communicate with internationally renowned scholars, but also further broadens their academic horizons. Professor Komatsu's wonderful speech won bursts of applause from the teachers and students present, and everyone said that they benefited a lot. Through this event, the School of Architecture & Fine Arts Dalian University of Technology and Nagoya University once again demonstrated its strength and influence in academic research and international exchange, making a positive contribution to promoting the development of the discipline of architecture.
