In August 2023, Associate Professor Yuan SU from our School of Architecture andFine Art, along with two students, were invited by Professor Hans Janssen from the Department of Building Physics and Sustainable Design at KU Leuven, Belgium, and Professor Risto Kosonen from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Aalto University, Finland, for an academic exchange visit. During this period, they visited KU Leuven in Belgium for academic cooperation from August 1st to August 10th, 2023. They attended the 11th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Architecture and Environment (SuDBE2023) and technical inspections from August 11th to August 19th.
At KU Leuven, cutting-edge research on building physics and sustainable design was discussed, resulting in collaborative paper writing on an international level. Practical experience was gained through various building physics laboratories and physical environmental simulation experiment rooms. Additionally, research was conducted on sustainable buildings' physical performance and energy-saving technologies in the local area and outdoor thermal and humidity environments.
During the visit to Aalto University, the discussions focused on the sustainable energy systems development for the campus. The talks also included the sustainable design, intelligent operation, and maintenance of commercial buildings in Ramboll Village. Additionally, the climate creation technologies and solutions for high-quality indoor environments at Halton Corporation were discussed and the architectural design in the context of climate change at Granlund Corporation.
The SuDBE2023 conference in Espoo, Finland, was attended by 180 delegates from 14 countries and regions, focusing on nine topics: low-carbon green buildings adapted to climate change, air quality and healthy buildings, thermal comfort, and intelligent operation and maintenance. Associate Professor Su Yuan was invited to give a keynote speech and served as the moderator for two sessions. Additionally, two students accompanied Yuan SU and presented oral presentations, with one winning the Best Presentation Award and the other winning the Best Poster Award. Consequently, four international conference papers were presented.
The visit between Dalian University of Technology, KU Leuven, and Aalto University has been an excellent opportunity for global collaboration. Webetter understood research trends and advancements in low-carbon city design and building physics, focusing on green energy-saving technologies and sustainable building environments. Additionally, this exchange visit has broadened our research horizons and enabled us to build relationships with experts in related fields, paving the way for potential future collaborations.
